Sinus Lifts in Birmingham, AL

A sinus lift is a dental procedure designed to increase the amount of bone in the upper jaw, particularly in the area of the molars and premolars, to prepare for dental implants. This procedure involves lifting the sinus membrane and adding bone graft material to promote new bone growth. Board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeons Dr. R. David Roden Jr. and Dr. Rocklin Alling of Roden Oral, Facial, and Dental Implant Surgery use sinus lifts to ensure patients have the necessary bone structure for successful implant placement. This treatment is especially helpful for those who have experienced bone loss in the upper jaw due to age, tooth loss, or other factors. To learn more or find out if you're a candidate for this procedure, contact our Birmingham, AL office.

A sinus lift is typically performed under local anesthesia, and in some cases, sedation may be used for added comfort. Dr. Roden or Dr. Alling begins by making a small incision in the gum tissue to access the area of the sinus. The sinus membrane is then gently lifted, and bone graft material is added to the empty space. This graft encourages new bone growth to support dental implants. After the procedure, the gum tissue is sutured closed, and patients are given specific care instructions to ensure proper healing. The procedure usually takes about 1 – 2 hours, and patients can typically resume normal activities after a short recovery period.

What Are the Benefits of a Sinus Lift?

Sinus lift surgery might help boost the volume of bone in the upper jaw, particularly in the area of the premolars and molars. A few other benefits involve:

  • Aids in refreshing full bite strength, permitting men and women to eat and chew more assuredly
  • Delivers necessary bone mass so dental implants can be properly placed, assuring a dependable base
  • Offers people with previously poor bone density an opportunity to select dental implants as a tooth replacement option
  • Curbs a sunken appearance or facial collapse connected with missing teeth and bone loss
  • Elevates the sinus floor in order to reduce the risk of implant difficulties
  • Increases the durability and longevity of dental implants by providing reasonable bone support

I have had 2 children have wisdom teeth removed here. The staff are all very kind and friendly. The Dr follows up the next day. I would recommend to anyone needing an oral surgeon to come here !

Dr. Roden is amazing! Him and his staff make you feel like family from start to finish. Everything went smoothly. I have gotten my wisdom teeth removed by him, and most recently had a dental implant put in. Both were very easy for recovery. The implant I have almost felt no pain... that's how you know you have a great surgeon. The staff makes you feel calm before the surgery, and answers all questions. Dr. Roden has called me after both procedures to check on how I was feeling. He is truly the best, and I recommend him to all my friends and family!!!

After your sinus surgery, you might be written a prescription for pain relievers and antibiotics that will assist you through your recovery. Dr. Roden will also prepare you for how you should take care of your incisions with aftercare instructions prior to the procedure. You should schedule a follow-up appointment about a week after your sinus lift for suture removal. The bone graft may require a few months to heal until a dental implant can be scheduled.
