Rocklin (Rocky) Alling, DDS, has literally spent his entire life in the world of oral surgery. He was born at US Army Hospital in Stuttgart, West Germany, where his father, a world-renowned oral surgeon, was stationed. Like many service families, Dr. Alling lived all over the United States before entering Indiana University and then the Indiana School of Dentistry. Before deciding upon dentistry and ultimately on oral surgery, Dr. Alling considered attending law school. However, those formative years shadowing his father on trauma calls to hospitals, and even on adventures to Alcatraz island to treat prisoners there, were so full of positive energy, gratification, and appeal that he had no choice but to embrace the dynamic but familiar path of his father. To this day, Dr. Alling truly believes that his job is the very best job, that he is blessed to serve his patients, and that if you make your career your hobby, you never have to work a day in your life!
Dr. Alling served his country by practicing oral surgery in the US Army, stationed for three years in Germany. After his tour of duty, he went into private practice for many years with his beloved father. During that time, Dr. Alling wrote many professional articles published in the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Oral and Maxillofacial Clinics of North America. Additionally, he co-edited the textbook, Impacted Teeth, that covers the etiology, pathology, anatomy, and physiology of the diagnosis and repair of impacted teeth.
Dr. Alling is thrilled and honored to have merged his long-standing practice with Dr. David Roden. They have operated together for several years and have the same philosophy of quality patient care. Dr. Alling would like his patients to know that at Roden Oral Surgery, we treat each patient like we would like to be treated, for the very best experience every time.

Dr. Alling is board-certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Dr. Alling has been active and a leader in both the Birmingham District Dental Society and the Alabama State Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He also has been a consultant for the US Army Dental Corps.
Dr. Alling has been married for over 44 years to Pam, and they both have been blessed with a large family of three sons, three beautiful daughters-in-law, and eight amazing grandchildren. The Allings are active members of their church and are actively involved with a prison ministry. When he is not traveling, Dr. Alling enjoys art and strives to become a better painter. One of his favorite jokes is that the practice of oral surgery is a great way to pay for his paint!
